Yesterday, I threw together a new recipe of some of my favorite (& allowable) things. I took a 14 oz. can of garlic chicken broth & added 3.5 ounces of chopped chicken, & about 1 cup of chopped, steamed asparagus, & some extra spices. It was DELICIOUS!!
Unfortunately, it caused me to gain a pound at this morning's weigh in. :(
I didn't think to check the sodium content until well after I ate it. Lesson learned. No more soup for me, unless I can find a mostly fat free & low sodium broth that isn't filled with MSG & other junk. While I find myself slightly bummed, I'm not surprised. I'm grateful for the lesson. :)

kitchen basics stock has the same amount of sodium as the other brands reduced sodium stock. i am sure you can find no sodium stock as well. or you could make your own. i think it is as easy as boiling some chicken on the bone with some celery, carrots, and spices. then you can freeze it in the serving size you want. just go to foodnetwork.com and look for one of ina garten's recipes. then don't add the salt or just add alittle.
even with the gain it is just water so don't worry about it. you are doing great!

Remember not to weigh yourself everyday! I keep telling myself this.
You are doing great!
The gain from sodium is very temporary! Soup is an excellent food when you are dieting, its low in calories and filling. If you want to make a lower sodium broth, saute some onions, garlic, celery, and bell pepper in a little olive oil in the bottom of a stock pot, then add some raw chicken (skin removed) and fill the pan with water, boil for 1-2 hours. Then add all your other stuff, it will taste a little bland without salt, but if you add a can of tomatoes (make sure its can that doesn't have added salt) it will taste much better. You can also experiment with spices.
You are doing so well. Remember if you aren't losing pounds you could be losing inches! Measure yourself too, you will be amazed! Keep it up.
