I started the HCG injections this morning. I took note of my weight & measurements, then compared it to last October when I last started this diet but failed miserably. I'm up 12 pounds from when I ended it, which isn't surprising yet I feel somewhat disappointed in myself for packing on that much weight in a mere 3 months time.
The good news is, I don't weigh as much as I ever have! That gives me something to smile about. :)
For the first 2 days of injections, I get to do something called "loading". In this phase, you get to eat as much fatty foods as you can stomach. I struggle with this part, but I understand it's necessary to get the best results. The "loading" signals your hypothalamus to get ready to burn excess fat, so that when the real calorie intake reduction happens on days 3-40 you're not left feeling hungry. And from my experience, you really don't experience hunger with this protocol. In fact, there were some days I found myself not eating as much as I should & having to fit more in at the end of the day.

So, my starting weight is (break out those glasses) 258.4, & my first big goal is to lose 40 pounds by the time my brother Grant gets home from his mission to the Philippines in early April.

Thanks, Em. I'm hoping the embarassment & shame associated with such a number will fade quicker than the pounds that will be shed. But it does feel good to be on the way. :)
good for you shannon!!! i'm VERY eager to see how the HCG diet works for you.. i've heard great things about it and am dying to try it myself. but i have about 2-3 years before i can :(
Mindy, I'm sure I can take off the weight with HCG, but my concern is keeping it off afterwards. They say it's definitely possible, but I'm still a bit of a skeptic on their reasoning. It's one of those things only time can tell. By the time you're ready, at least there will be some hard "I know a person who once did this" evidence for you. ;) Thanks for the encouragement, Mindy!

Hi Birgit! An out-of-towner! How exciting!! :)
I'm pulling 40cc (or 40 ml, same amount either way) each morning. The reason I failed last year is because I was doing it with my husband, who jumped ship a few days before me. I was only 10 days in to it & just didn't stick to the diet, so I figured why bother if I'm not going to do this perfectly. In retrospect, I'm really glad I failed. Now I know what to expect, what my weakest points are, & what can hold me back. If I could get away from the kitchen entirely, that would be ideal. I have 4 kids & a husband, though, so that's not feasible.
I think the best thing anyone can do to succeed at staying on the protocol is to inform yourself. Read Pounds & Inches, then read Kevin Trudeau's book. Then read as many recipe books, suitable for this protocol, as you can. The same food every day can get monotonous, so you need to find different ways to prepare it so you don't get bored. If you can do these things before you start the protocol, you'll be ahead of the game & be less likely to slip or completely fall flat on your face.
